I think that Tracey Emin’s ‘My Bed’ installation is an interesting piece of art as it’s something nobody else has done before and something so different that people may not even class it as art. For people to walk into the Tate Gallery and see this installation I think they would be rather confused to see a bed in an art gallery, but this strangeness probably gets the viewer thinking about what the bed is doing there and what the bed stands for, the story behind it and that gets people thinking.
For Tracey Emin to present her own bed in the state that it was during the several days that she did not leave her bed due to suicidal depression I think is very brave of her to do, especially when it’s being presented in Tate Gallery for everyone to see. Although people may not class it as art and although it isn’t a painting or photograph I think it’s an artistic way of showing emotion and feelings as well as documenting how tough life can be. This may be the kind of state that other people are living like and they may be feeling the same as Tracey did at the time but nobody would want to present that feeling. I think Tracey Emin creating this installation and have it presented in the Tate Gallery is courageous as people may be very quick to judge the piece of art and Tracey herself.
